A few drawings from Charles Thurber's two patents appear below.
The first image shows his "machine for printing," patented on August 26, 1843. It received patent number 3,228. You can clearly see the wheel with the keys arranged in a circle. Overall, the machine doesn't look much like a modern typewriter.
The other two pictures show Thurber's "mechanical chirographer," patented on November 18, 1845. It received patent number 4,271.
