March 16 (continued)

The two photographs below were taken by Dr. Goddard's wife Esther on March 16, 1926. In the first picture, Goddard is posing beside the tall frame which has his small rocket at the top. The object beneath the frame is the fuel tank, connected by two thin tubes to the rocket itself. The large object on the left side of the picture (only partly visible) was put in place to protect the project from wind before launching.

That windshield is visible in its entirety in the second picture, which was taken from a distance, probably after the launch. Notice the launching frame on the right side of the photo; the rocket and tanks are not in place. In the background, (looking under the windshield) you can make out the truck used by Goddard to haul his equipment to the site.

Because of camera problems, there is no picture of the actual launch or the flight.
